Ultrasonic welding & Benefits of Ultrasonic Welding to join thermoplastics

What is ultrasonic Welding?
Ultrasonic plastic welding is the joining or reforming of thermoplastics through the use of heat generated from high-frequency mechanical motion. In this Process high frequency electrical energy converted into high frequency mechanical energy to. when mechanical motion is applied along with force then a frictional heat is generated at the joint area of part & this heat leads the plastic to melt & form a inter molecular bond between two mating parts.
Benefits of Ultrasonic Welding-
1. By using ultrasonic welding, we can reduce the use of adhesive, glue, fastener etc. Which leads low production cost.
2. Much easier process & low time-consuming process
3. It produces a high-quality bond and a clean, tight seal.
4. We can join two similar plastic products as well as two different material.
Design Consideration
1. Material Selection: Thermoplastic which has amorphous structure can easily join by USW. ABS & PPO (Polyphenylene oxide) are easy to join by USW.
2. Energy Director: An energy director is a raised region with a triangular cross-section. This energy director is pressed against the mating plastic part which need to join & ultrasonic energy has applied. Due this Energy heat is generated & its melt the energy director & join two material.
